How it works
Community (Type Homes)
After your wrap you can publish a public passport (opt-in) and land in your Type Home — e.g. Sale Goblin, Ranked Menace. You’re never locked: join and explore any other type.
Each Type Home has a Talk board — posts, replies, likes, and report. Publish first, then say hi. Player-made rooms & clubs are next.
Pro never gates community access. Free includes wrap, type, passport, Type Homes, and talk. Pro adds flair on posts/passports, longer posts & bio, higher rate limits, HD wrap export, wrap history, and ad-free (including community pages).
0. The motto: What type of player are you?
Short brand line: Know your type. PlayWorth is built around a shareable Steam wrap: player type (archetype), hexagonal genre DNA, best/worst titles, traits, and a poster for Discord. Library value and cost-per-hour sit underneath as the depth layer — free forever.
Your hexagonal genre chart plots the six strongest genres by hours played — the shape is a visual fingerprint of how you play (Action vs Strategy vs Cozy, etc.) and feeds into your player type.
Each type has a 16personalities-style identity card: a 4-letter code (e.g. RANK, SALE, VALU), color group (The Focused · The Collectors · The Arena · The Architects · The Wanderers), emblem, and shareable poster art.
Marketing is meant to be social: friends see your type → generate theirs on playworth.net → chain reaction.
1. Link Steam or look up a profile
Steam (top right) uses Steam OpenID — no Steam password is shared with us. We store a signed session cookie so your wrap opens when you come back. Account is a separate username + password for Inkcase; you can Link Steam to that account from this site. You can still paste any public Steam profile URL, vanity name, or SteamID64 anytime. Game details and friends list must be Public for stats (Steam’s Web API does not expose private libraries to third-party sites).
2. Store prices
For each game we request the current Steam store price in a country that matches your display currency (e.g. USD→US, EUR→DE, GBP→GB). Free-to-play titles count as $0.
3. Cost per hour
Cost / hour = store price ÷ hours played
Overall library rate uses sum of paid game prices ÷ sum of hours on those paid games.
Free games don’t inflate “money spent,” but their hours still show in total time.
Verdict bands (strict standard)
Cost / hour = price ÷ hours (your library) or price ÷ community average hours (game profiles). Bands are intentionally strict so average short titles don’t read as “fair.”
- ≤ $0.75 / hr — Excellent / Great (outstanding hours per dollar)
- ≤ $1.50 / hr — Strong / Good
- ≤ $2.50 / hr — Fair (acceptable, not a bargain)
- ≤ $4.00 / hr — Weak (premium per hour; finish-and-love it)
- > $4.00 / hr — Steep
- 0 hours — Unplayed
Example at $60 (mature title): Excellent needs ~80h avg, Strong ~40h, Fair ~24h, Weak ~15h; under ~15h is Steep. Bands use your selected currency’s amount (same numbers, local symbol).
Release age (fair to developers)
Community average hours take months to build. A brand-new $70 game with modest early playtime is not the same story as a five-year-old full-price title with the same hours. On game profiles, we keep the reported cost/hour honest, but relax verdict thresholds for newer releases:
- < 1 month — bands ×2.2
- < 3 months — ×1.9
- < 6 months — ×1.6
- < 1 year — ×1.35
- 1–2 years — ×1.15
- 2+ years — full strict standard
Early Access gets a little extra padding. HowLongToBeat playthrough length (not lifetime hours) uses the full standard so short premium games don’t get a free pass just for being new. Your personal library verdicts still use your actual hours (no age curve).
Why not “exact money spent”?
Steam does not provide purchase history or wallet spend through the public API. Current MSRP/store price is the industry-standard estimate used by library-value tools. Real spend is often lower after sales and bundles.
Free games, DLC & battle passes
Free-to-play titles often still cost money via expansions and DLC. PlayWorth prices DLC apps in your library and rolls them onto the parent game (e.g. Sims packs, CS/Dota store DLC). True battle-pass / cosmetic shop purchases that never appear as Steam library DLC cannot be read from the public API.
Categories
Filter by paid, F2P, F2P with DLC spend, DLC-only, unplayed, recent, 100+ hours, value tiers, multiplayer / single-player, Early Access, and top genres from the Steam store.
Game profiles
Open any title for a game value profile: current price, live player count, review score, estimated owners (SteamSpy), average/median hours, and community cost-per-hour / hours-per-dollar (price ÷ average owner playtime). Also estimates “hours until worth it” vs movie-night rates, catalog DLC totals, and you vs community if you opened the game from your library analysis.
Friends leaderboard
Uses ISteamUser/GetFriendList (friends list must be Public), then loads each friend’s public library for hours and a partial store-price estimate. Rank by total hours, estimated value, cost/hour, recent play, or games owned.
Charts
Interactive views: top hours, cost/hour, price vs hours scatter, value tiers, library mix, and you-vs-friend hour comparison after loading the leaderboard.
Beyond Steam (BETA)
Optionally link Riot, Minecraft, Battle.net, Roblox, and more. We pull public profile/match stats where APIs allow. Real-money purchase history is almost never available to third-party apps — you can enter manual hours/spend on Account Linking when you want those numbers in the library.
Privacy
We only use public Steam data for lookups. Steam login uses OpenID (no Steam password shared with us). Site accounts store a username and a scrypt password hash; Inkcase progress is keyed to that account, never your IP or VPN. Linked account IDs for Beyond Steam are stored on our server so your wrap can load next visit. See the full Privacy Policy for cookies, AdSense, and contact.
Studio tools
Game developers can claim titles for marketing assets: free value cards, HD kits when claimed, and live embed badges. Claims never buy a better spot on organic “best value” lists — those stay data-driven.
Free forever core
These stay free for everyone — no bait-and-switch:
- Public Steam profile lookup and library cost-per-hour analysis
- Overview, charts, friends leaderboard (when privacy allows)
- Game value profiles
- Beyond Steam account linking (beta)
- Open Inkcase as its own app (progress saved per site account)
- Standard-resolution share wrap
Optional PlayWorth Pro ($4/mo or $36/yr) adds saved wrap history, ad-free UI, and HD share cards.
Advertising
PlayWorth may display a small number of Google AdSense units (after library results and on game profiles) to help keep the free core online. Ads are labeled “Advertisement”. Pro members are ad-free.
